What can I expect on my first visit?
On your first visit a detailed medical history will be taken. This will be followed by a physical examination, for which you will normally be asked to undress to your underwear and to perform a series of simple movements so that the mobility of your body can be evaluated. Then, using a developed sense of touch, your osteopath will identify any abnormalities in the structure and function of your body, including areas of weakness, tenderness, restriction or strain.
By this means, a diagnosis will be made and your osteopath will then discuss with you the most appropriate treatment plan, estimating the likely number of sessions needed to treat your condition effectively.
Once your examination is complete and the diagnosis explained, appropriate hands-on treatment can begin. As mentioned above, treatment will normally involve gentle soft tissue and stretching techniques coupled with the precise articulation and manipulation of specific joints.
